Case Study - Formflo Ltd

Formflo Limited is a leading manufacturer of roll-formed driveline components, produced by its own cold metal forming process. When Formflo decided to expand the amount of storage in the yard at their Cheltenham site they approached us to provide a suitable storage solution. Having successfully completed previous storage systems, Formflo were happy to work with us again on this project. Our sales and design team, in partnership with Formflo, designed a large quantity of cantilever racking to suit the specific requirements of their yard, which we then manufactured at our purpose built facility and installed.

There were concerns arising from criteria laid out in the planning permission, stating that materials could only be moved at specific times and that materials should not be stored over 2500mm high. The site was both historically and strategically sensitive being very close to mainline railway tracks and so it was vital that the right solution for the job was found. We therefore tailored a racking solution which enabled the height criteria to be met while also providing sufficient storage for Formflo.

There were further restraints due to a lack of space in the yard making it difficult to install the racking in one visit. In order to allow for logistical arrangements to create enough space for installation, the project was fitted in three stages. Wickens and Formflo communicated well to ensure that items had been removed from certain areas of the yard to allow for installation. Formflo benefited from cost savings by having the entire job manufactured and delivered in one stage and installing it at different times.

We also manufactured and supplied a safety barrier system to protect the racking and other equipment. Installation was staggered over the course of a week, allowing Formflo the necessary time to move their external equipment in order to create space and still adhere to the planning permission.
